Hamdan Ballal, Oscar-Winning Palestinian Filmmaker, Attacked & Arrested In West Bank
Israeli settlers attacked Hamdan Ballal, co-director of the Oscar-winning film No Other Land, before the military detained him in the occupied West Bank. Witnesses reported masked and armed settlers storming the village, assaulting Palestinian activists as they fled a barrage of rocks. Ballal’s wife heard him screaming, “I’m dying,” as he was beaten and taken away. His co-director, Basel Adra, saw him blindfolded, handcuffed, and dragged to a military vehicle, calling the attack “revenge” for their film, which exposed Israeli demolitions in Masafer Yatta. The Israeli army claims clashes erupted after Palestinians threw rocks at settlers. Ballal and others remain in military custody, with no contact allowed.
