RANCHI/JAMSHEDPUR: The sub-adult male elephant that has been on a deadly rampage in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum since Jan 1, has gone missing even as the toll from its attack rose to 17.The forest department said it could tranquilise and relocate the jumbo but was unable to track the animal.Chaibasa divisional forest officer Aditya Narayan told TOI a specialised tracker from Vantara in Gujarat has reached the district and one from WildlifeSOS would reach by Friday morning to find the jumbo. Quick response teams from Bengal and Odisha reached two days back.“We are camping in the fields, but it wasn’t spotted today,” said Narayan over the phone. As per a forest department officer, “The elephant’s movement pattern suggests it is haphazardly running around a 100km circumference across three forest divisions.” The elephant was last seen in the Sialjod forest of Hatgamharia block under the Chaibasa forest division limits on Wednesday.
