Kendrapada: Unidentified miscreants chopped off the palms of Pradeep Nanda, the owner of Jagannath jewellery shop, Mahala Hat, at Hurasahi Chhack under Kudanagari police station in Kendrapada district on Sunday night. The incident took place when he was returning to his village, Thakurapatana, in his four-wheeler with gold ornaments and cash after closing his jewellery shop. The worth of the valuables looted is yet to be ascertained, said IIC of Kudanagari police station, Jagannath Pradhan.

Police reached the spot after being alerted by passersby. “We shifted him to the district headquarters hospital at Kendrapada. Subsequently , he was shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar by his family members,” added the police officer. Police seized a blood-soaked axe from the spot.
