Jealous Housewife Arrested for Harassing Rival with Fake Social Media Profile in Delhi | Delhi News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: A 26-year-old postgraduate woman was arrested in North Delhi for creating a fake social media profile of another woman and harassing her, suspecting an affair with her husband. The accused, driven by jealousy and suspicion, used her husband’s Instagram account to send objectionable messages to the victim. When the victim blocked the account, the woman created a fake Instagram profile in the victim’s name, edited her photos, and shared them online.She also contacted the victim’s friends and colleagues to gather personal information. The harassment came to light after the victim filed a police complaint, which led to the arrest.The complainant, a 30-year-old woman, informed the police that someone created a fake Instagram account in her name and uploaded her photographs to impersonate her. The accused was also following the complainant’s friends and colleagues in an attempt to gather information about her. A case was subsequently registered.Deputy commissioner of police (North) Raja Banthia said that the SIM card used by the accused was registered to an address in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. “The current location of the accused was traced to Nangloi. Further technical analysis confirmed her previous address in the same area. A police team proceeded to the location and conducted a search, eventually identifying the accused’s current residence. A woman was apprehended, and her mobile phone along with the SIM card was seized,” police said.The accused was identified as RituPandey, a permanent resident of Ghazipur, UP.During interrogation, Pandey told the police that she got married in 2023. Before the wedding, her husband sent her a group photo with his friends, in which the complainant was also present. After marriage, she noticed that her husband was following the complainant on Instagram, which made her suspicious.“She devised a plan and sent inappropriate messages to the complainant using her husband’s Instagram account. As a result, the complainant blocked his account,” police said. To confirm whether her husband had any interest in the complainant, Pandey created a fake Instagram profile in the complainant’s name. She then contacted the complainant’s friends and colleagues through the fake account to gather more information and collect photographs. She downloaded pictures from their accounts, edited them, and uploaded them to the fake profile.Her intent was to impersonate the complainant and see if her husband would send a friend request to the fake account. However, police said the husband was unaware of the account’s existence. Pandey is a housewife. Her husband works in Nangloi, Delhi, and stays at a relative’s house there. She often visits him at that location.
