Jamshedpur: The Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing the kidnapping of an industrialist’s son here, is closing in on Prince Khan’s gang over the incident. The police are also looking for Bihar-based criminal gangs which operate out of Muzaffarpur and Hajipur localities and are notorious for kidnapping people for ransom. Preliminary investigations found out that the kidnappers used an SUV while kidnapping Kairav Gandhi, the 22-year-old son of industrialist Devan Chandra Gandhi of the Steel City.Separate police teams are raiding different places in Dhanbad, Hazaribag, and Koderma to apprehend the associates of Khan, who is said to be operating out of Dubai currently. The cops’ needle of suspicion fell on Khan, whose henchmen also fired at a timber merchant’s house located under the Sitaramdera thana limits of the Steel City in Oct 2025. Official sources said the SIT seemed to have detected a pattern similar in both firing and kidnapping cases. An extortion call was made to the timber merchant, Hare Ram Singh, from an international number, and after some days, gunshots were fired outside his house. However, the police’s timely action prevented the trader from paying any money, besides nabbing and seizing firearms from the four accomplices of the gang.Notably, industrialist Devan Chandra Gandhi received a ransom call of Rs 5 crore from an anonymous Indonesian number on Jan 13, the day his son, Kairav, was kidnapped. The kidnappers also threatened to kill the victim if ransom was not paid within 48 hours.Meanwhile, the DIG of the Kolhan range, Anuranjan Kispotta, said, “Our team is on the job and work is going on. It would not be right to reveal case details at this point.”
