Indian Railways eyes world’s longest Hyperloop test track with 1,100 kmph speeds – The Times of India

India is set to construct the world’s longest hyperloop test facility, which will help evaluate the feasibility of commercial operations for this advanced transport system. The infrastructure, capable of achieving speeds up to 1,100 kilometres per hour, follows the successful completion of a 422-metre test track in December 2024, according to officials.
“Plans are being readied for a 40–50-kilometre (km) hyperloop test track in the country. It will be supported by the Indian Railways,” a senior official told ET.
Hyperloop represents an emerging high-speed mass transit system. Whilst operating similarly to railways, it utilises advanced technologies aimed at delivering greater efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Various technological approaches are being explored globally to create a transportation system featuring capsules supported by air-bearing surfaces within low-pressure tubes.
The 422-metre vacuum tube testing facility was established through a collaborative effort between Indian Railways, L&T Constructions and Avishkar Hyperloop at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras.
TuTr Hyperloop, a deep-tech venture incubated at IIT Madras, conducted India’s first commercial intent hyperloop pod run on Monday. The firm has been working alongside Indian Railways to advance this technology. Additionally, an official statement indicated that Indian Railways and IIT Madras will collaborate on developing a vertical take-off landing vehicle, with funding from Indian Railways.
The potential for hyperloop technology in India is substantial. As Denis Tudor, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Co-founder at Swisspod Technologies said, “India has a great potential for hyperloop. It is estimated that a 40-kilometre test track would cost $150 -300 million upon completion depending on the dimension for the project.”
A significant collaboration emerged when Tudor’s Swiss-American enterprise and TuTr from India entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in March 2022. Both Swiss and Indian governments supported this partnership. Notably, Swisspod receives backing from Elon Musk, who serves as Senior Advisor to US President Donald Trump.
The initial concept of the Hyperloop System originated from Swiss Professor Marcel Juffer during the 1970s. Subsequently, Swissmetro SA was established in 1992 to advance this innovation, though the company ceased operations in 2009.
In Nevada, Virgin Hyperloop continues its system testing programme. The company has now prioritised freight transport applications, considering the complexities in passenger certification. Simultaneously, Canadian firm TransPod is developing a test facility to verify their distinctive propulsion and levitation mechanism. Additionally, China is advancing plans for a system similar to Hyperloop, intended to achieve hypersonic velocities.

‘So Much Hatred’: Trump Calls On Putin, Zelensky To Accept Ukraine Deal Proposal Floated By U.S.
Speaking alongside Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre in Washington, U.S. President Donald Trump issued a pointed warning to Russia over the Ukraine conflict. Trump said both sides must return to the table and seek peace urgently, emphasizing that “5,000 young people a week” are dying in the war. He expressed hope that peace could still be achieved, but warned he has “his own deadline,” after which U.S. policy could change dramatically. Trump also hinted at possible new sanctions on Russia if bombing continues. His remarks come amid rising global pressure to end hostilities. Watch

Lin Laishram recalls her first meeting with Randeep Hooda in 2011, living together during COVID: ‘I was not sure if this was the right person to get married’ – The Times of India

Randeep Hooda and Lin Laishram’s wedding was rooted in love and tradition, but their road to forever wasn’t always smooth. In a recent interview, Lin shared how their bond began back in 2011 and deepened during the COVID-19 lockdown, eventually leading to their culturally rich Manipuri wedding in November 2023.
Lin Laishram recalls her first meeting with Randeep Hooda in 2011
Speaking to Hauterrfly, Lin Laishram opened up about the first time she met Randeep Hooda, a moment that set the stage for their enduring relationship. “We met in 2011,” she said. “I had just returned from New York, where I was still modelling. I wanted to get into acting, so I went to Naseeruddin Shah sir’s production house, and that’s where I met him.”
Randeep offered help without hesitation. “One day he helped me with casting directors and what I should be doing. That was our first conversation. I felt very genuine about him as a person,” Lin revealed. “He helped me immediately without even asking what I could do for him.”
‘There was something about him’

While many relationships take time to bloom, Lin confessed to feeling an instant connection. “A very weird thing I felt when I first saw him… I felt that I knew him. I felt very comfortable around him, something about him made me feel very comfortable,” she said.
Though they were still exploring what the relationship meant, she shared, “We were also kind of confused about this, so we were trying to figure out the relationship.”
Living together during COVID brought them closer

The turning point came during the pandemic. “During the COVID time, we started actually living together,” Lin said. “I was not used to living with somebody, he was also not used to living like that, so there was a lot of adjustment.”
Yet, in the midst of isolation and chaos, the couple found joy and stability. “But both of us felt so easy during the COVID-19 — we were saying, ‘arey, yeh toh acha hai’,” she recalled with a smile. “We found our home and peace in each other during that time.”
Family pressures and societal expectations posed challenges
Lin shared her initial doubts about marriage, not because of Randeep, but due to cultural pressures and expectations. “I wanted to get married, but I was not sure if this was the right person because when you get married late, there’s a lot going on in your head,” she explained.
She added, “My parents would keep saying ‘get married to a Manipuri boy’, or Randeep’s parents would say, ‘you should only get married into a Jaat family’.”
How Randeep supported Lin in her personal journey
Despite all the doubts, Lin eventually found clarity and a safe space with Randeep. “Ultimately I found my space, which Randeep really helped with — making me feel comfortable in whoever I was,” she said.
She also reflected on the lack of early support from her family. “I never felt supported by my parents or my family about what I chose in life. They didn’t support me when I was acting and modelling. They only understood when I became popular and started making some money.”

10 kids from Bihar rescued in Bangarpet railway station – The Times of India

Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel in Bangarpet, Kolar district, rescued 10 children from Bihar who were brought by an unknown person on the pretext of admitting them to a madrassa in Malur taluk for higher studies.
Around 11.30am Wednesday, the anti-human trafficking unit attached to RPF was checking the compartments of Kaziranga Express that runs between Guwahati and Bengaluru. RPF head constable Satish Kumar spotted 10 children in the age group of 10-15 years in a compartment without any adults accompanying them. Satish asked the kids who they were and where their guardian was. The children said they had come all the way from Bihar’s Araria district and were going to Malur to pursue higher studies in a madrassa. They told Satish the person who brought them had gone to buy tickets to Malur.
Smelling something fishy, Satish brought all the kids to the platform where RPF inspector Suresh questioned them. The children told the officer that the person who brought them had promised they could continue their higher education, including engineering and medical courses, at the madrassa. But when no one turned up to pick up the children, Suresh, after consultation with members of District Child Protection unit, handed them over to Children Welfare Committee in KGF where they have been provided shelter.
Suresh said the railway authorities are trying to locate the person who brought the children from Bihar.
Nagarathna, District Child Protection Officer, Kolar, who is also in charge of CWC, KGF, said the children were produced before the committee Thursday. However, they couldn’t provide information because they were new to the environment and faced language issues.
Details about the children have been sent to Children Welfare Committees in Bihar and Assam and once they respond, steps will be taken to send them back to their respective places.
