IIPA study team reviews GVMC urban governance model

As part of the 51st Advanced Professional Programme in Public Administration (APPPA) being conducted under the aegis of the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), New Delhi, a nine-member Urban Study team visited the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) on Tuesday and paid a courtesy call on GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg.

The team was led by IIPA Director General Surendranath Tripathi and programme director Sachin Choudhary. During a meeting organised as part of the visit, the Commissioner and heads of various departments made a detailed presentation on initiatives undertaken by the GVMC in urban development, city beautification, smart city projects, sanitation, infrastructure development, urban planning, public service delivery programmes, and the implementation of Central and State government schemes.

Members of the study team, comprising senior officers from Central government departments, All India Services and Defence Services, informed the Commissioner that the visit was aimed at gaining insights into the role of institutions in urban governance, public service delivery, and the impact of various implemented schemes.

Later, the team visited the Waste-to-Energy Plant at Kapuluppada, the Floating Solar Power Plant at Mudasarlova, and the Water Treatment Plant at Narava.

Mr. Ketan Garg said that as part of the study tour, the team would also visit the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority, the Visakhapatnam Port Authority, and other local-level institutions, and hold interactive discussions with the officials concerned.
