1. Public events, processions require police permission; must conclude by 11.30 pm: Mangaluru City Police

Besides making it mandatory for organisers of public events and processions to obtain permission from the police and other agencies concerned with the soon-to-begin festival season, the Mangaluru City Police have said no event will be permitted beyond 11.30 p.m. Police on July 3, 2025, came out with detailed guidelines for events ahead of Muharram, Janmashtami and Mosaru Kudike, Ganesh Chaturthi, Navarathri, Deepavali and Christmas to ensure public safety, peace and adherence to law.

Organisers have to produce a no objection certificate from the owner if the event was being organised on a private venue. “Events being held beyond 11.30 p.m. would be treated as unlawful assembly,” Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said. Events should be organised in approved location and on approved routes. Police have imposed complete ban on use of DJ system while loudspeakers could be used with prior written permission and under approved sound limits till 10 p.m. 

2. Space talk: Mysuru school students to interact with astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla on July 4

Mysuru’s Excel Public School (EPS) students will participate in a live interaction with astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla (VU2TNI), currently stationed aboard the International Space Station (ISS) as part of the Axiom Space AX-4 mission. The event, scheduled for Friday (July 4) at 3:47 pm IST, will take place through the Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) initiative in coordination with the U.R. Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), Bengaluru.

Six licensed student HAM operators from EPS will represent the school in the ISS interaction, guided by their mentor and Amateur Radio club custodian Mahesh M.B. “The contact will be made using amateur radio transceivers configured to uplink and downlink signals through the ARISS ground station infrastructure, allowing students to engage in Q&A from Earth to space via RF transmissions,” according to a press release.

3. Many parts of Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Shivamogga receive heavy rains

Many parts of Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru and Hassan districts have been receiving heavy rains for the past two days. The district administrations have declared a holiday for schools in rain-hit areas in the region. The inflow into the reservoirs has been on the rise, forcing the authorities to increase the outflow.

In the last 24 hours that ended at 8.30 a.m. on Thursday (July 3, 2025), Sulugodu in Hosanagara taluk of Shivamogga registered the highest rainfall of 209.5 mm. Tirthamattur in Tirthahalli taluk registered 180.5 mm of rainfall. Megaravalli recorded 176 mm. Similarly, parts of Sagara, Hosanagara and Soraba taluks received heavy rainfall.

4. Minor fire breaks out in engine of Palace Queen Humsafar Express train, no injuries

A fire broke out in the engine of the moving Palace Queen Hamsafar Express train in Bengaluru South district due to a suspected technical snag on Thurday (July 3, 2025) morning. The train connects Mysuru and Udaipur in Rajasthan. No one was hurt in the accident, the officials said.

According to officials, at around 11.45 a.m., the locopilot noticed a spark in the engine while the express train was crossing Channapattana. He immediately halted the train and informed the control room. After the fire was doused. an alternate engine was attached to the train. The train later resumed the journey.
