NEW DELHI: A 17-year-old boy was shot in East Delhi‘s Geeta Colony by two men seeking revenge. The attackers allegedly held the boy responsible for the murder of their friends, two brothers. Police received a PCR call around 11 pm regarding the shooting of a boy in the Raja Garden area. The victim sustained gunshot injuries.“The boy went to visit his aunt in Rani Garden on his scooter around 8.30 pm.At approximately 9.15 pm, while returning, he was shot—once on the left side of his head and again in the upper abdomen. His friend, who also witnessed the incident, rushed him to the hospital in an auto-rickshaw,” police said.During the investigation, two suspects were apprehended, and the weapon used—a country-made pistol—was recovered. DCP (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam said the attackers were close friends of the two brothers killed by the boy in September 2024 over a property dispute.The double murder was reported last year. On September 14, 2024, at 6.41 pm, police received information that a man was shot and was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. He was brought in by his elder sister, who told police that local children informed her that her brother was lying in the street, bleeding. She rushed him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.At the crime scene in Rani Garden, police recovered two empty bullet casings and two lead projectiles. While investigating, they discovered that the deceased’s elder brother was also missing. The house of the victims—located just 30–40 metres from the scene—was found locked from the outside.Noticing fresh blood flowing into a nearby drain, police broke the lock and entered the house, where they found the elder brother unconscious with a gunshot wound to the head. Police said during the inquiry, the juvenile suspect was apprehended. He claimed that his family rented the ground and first floors of the Rani Garden property from the victims’ father about 4–5 years ago, paying Rs 4 lakh as a security deposit. According to a written agreement, the family could reside there rent-free until the money was repaid. However, the two brothers later began pressuring them to vacate the property, which allegedly led the boy to commit the murders.

HYDERABAD: Telangana chief minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday put the police force on high alert and directed them to increase security and vigilance in all sensitive areas, foreign embassies, IT companies in and around Hyderabad, and district centres, in view of Operation Sindoor carried out by India at midnight on Tuesday.The chief minister held an emergency meeting with available officers from the armed forces, the Director General of Police (DGP), other top police officials, and officials from the disaster management department to review security measures for major defence installations in the city and other places across the state following Operation Sindoor.“The police should be alert in Hyderabad city. The leaves of all employees from essential services departments and foreign trips stand cancelled, and all ministers and officials should be available. We should give a message that we are all with the country’s defence forces. There is no room for politics and parties at this time,” he said.CM Revanth will monitor the civil defence mock drill at four locations in Hyderabad at 4 pm today (Wednesday).The security measures to safeguard all major installations and key strategic Central, defence, and state government locations were reviewed. The state government will provide full support and cooperation to the Armed Forces and will work in coordination with them. CM Revanth will personally monitor the situation on a war footing to ensure security, safety, and total vigilance in Hyderabad and all cities, towns, and villages across Telangana.“People are advised to stay vigilant but also be fully reassured that the Centre and State are working together for their safety. We request total cooperation from all citizens at this hour,” the CM said.Strict action will be taken against government employees who make unnecessary statements to the media or on social media. A round-the-clock toll-free number will be set up for public use. Unauthorised stay of citizens from Pakistan and Bangladesh should be immediately detained.“Blood banks should be prepared with adequate stocks, and emergency medicines should be kept ready in all hospitals. Ensure that food stocks are sufficient,” the CM said.Officials were instructed to coordinate with the Red Cross Society. Police were directed to remain vigilant about cyber security. Strong action should be taken against those who spread fake news.“Fake news is likely to increase public anxiety. A special cell should be set up to curb it. CCTV cameras should be connected to the command control room in the three commissionerates of the state capital. If necessary, consult peace committees. The police department should be alert regarding history-sheeters and habitual offenders,” he added.CM Revanth said a rally will be taken out from the secretariat to the Necklace road at 6 pm on Thursday to express solidarity and support to the armed forces (defence forces). The CM, ministers and other leaders will participate. The CM posted on X: “As an Indian citizen first, standing strongly with our armed forces. CHENNAI: The fourth edition of the Unifi Capital Offshore Regatta, one of India’s premier offshore sailing events, will set sail on May 12, 2025, from Chennai to Mahabalipuram. The regatta will feature J/80 class sailboats and is being conducted under the aegis of the Yachting Association of India (YAI), with support from Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC), Chennai Port Authority (ChPA), and Kamarajar Port Limited (KPL).The event, held in compliance with World Sailing’s global safety standards, will feature two racing categories — the Gold Fleet and the Silver Fleet — each with five teams. The Gold Fleet includes Abhimanyu Panwar, ranked 4th in the J/80 Asian Championship 2019, and Murugan Nadar, who clinched 3rd place in the mixed category at the World Championship 2019 in Spain and was last year’s regatta champion.Also racing in the Gold Fleet are Chinna Reddy and Yakobu, both winners at the prestigious Sail the Gulf Regatta in Qatar, and Shubham Pillai, a coach and skiff racing champion. In the Silver Fleet, emerging sailors like Dheer Singhi and RV Gautam will race alongside Indian Coast Guard officers.The high-seas challenge will see the fleet cover a 100-kilometre round-trip route between Chennai Port and Mahabalipuram on Day 1, expected to last around 10 hours.
