Gumla rolls out project to improve primary education in govt schools | Ranchi News – The Times of India

Gumla: The district administration rolled out an ambitious Project AJIT (A Journey Towards Inspiration and Transformation) to improve the standard of education in govt schools.
It is the first such approach conceptualised by Gumla DC Karn Satyarthi to achieve excellence in the govt education system under his Siksha Kar Bhent initiative, which translates to Gift of Education in the Nagpuri language, from the current academic session.
To realise the goals of the National Education Policy 2020 and the NIPUN Bharat Mission, it is considered important to provide adequate support from the early years of children.
“The district administration believes that building strong foundational skills in children during these crucial years will help them become effective learners and eliminate the chances of school dropouts and the need for remedial interventions in later years,” said assistant nodal officer of Siksha Kar Bhent, Dildar Singh.
“The school education department focuses on the learning of children from classes 1 to 3 by engaging them in play-based pedagogy, using local resources and various low-cost and readily available materials — a zero cost initiative,” said Gumla district superintendent of education (DSE) Noor Alam Khan.
DC Satyarthi elaborates on the district administration’s vision of the project, saying, “Junior classes should be both ‘print-rich,’ featuring various types of storybooks, story cards, picture cards, and flashcards, and ‘play-rich’, containing a variety of manipulatives, toys, and other play-based activities in their eduation.”

E-witness room for cops to depose remotely | Chennai News – The Times of India

Chennai: With a view to expedite judicial processes and reduce logistical burden on police officers, the Chennai police have opened a Virtual Witness Room at the office of the joint commissioner of police (East) in Egmore. The facility, equipped with HD video-conferencing, will enable investigating officers to provide court depositions remotely.
Vijayendra Bidari, additional commissioner of police, headquarters launched the facility. It has been conceived in accordance with Section 254(1)-(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which permits govt officers, particularly police personnel, to give witness testimony through electronic means. Madras high court has already mandated that courts across Tamil Nadu accept depositions from officially designated virtual witness rooms.
The facility features soundproof interiors , audio-video recording systems, a document visualiser for presenting evidence, and secure video conferencing tools. It aims to eliminate the need for officers to travel to distant courts, preventing disruptions to investigations.
An assistant commissioner of police explained, “Officers may have to travel a day in advance and even stay in lodges if court hearings are adjourned or the magistrate is unavailable.”
The move will ensure court timelines are met with minimal disruption to police duties. The model will be replicated across other districts in TN.

Punjab-Haryana water row intensifies; Oppn. flays Mann’s ‘inaction’

The dispute between the governments of Punjab and Haryana over the sharing of water from the Bhakra Nangal dam grew louder on Thursday.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said Punjab does not have “surplus water to share with anyone” and alleged that the neighbouring Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled States of Haryana and Rajasthan had “joined hands to rob Punjab of its share of water”.

In response, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab of “playing dirty politics”. Talking to mediapersons in Panchkula, Mr. Saini said, “This is the first time that the supply of drinking water to Haryana has been stopped.”

The war of words comes a day after the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) decided to release water to Haryana, even as Punjab claimed that Haryana had already exhausted its annual share of water by March 31.

Mr. Mann also hit out at the BBMB over its “illegal” decision to release 8,500 cusecs of water to Haryana on Wednesday and termed it “arbitrary, dictatorial, and undemocratic”.

The BBMB regulates water distribution from Bhakra Nangal, Pong, and Ranjit Sagar dams to Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan.

Meanwhile, Punjab’s Opposition parties attacked Mr. Mann for his “theatrics” over the issue.

Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal said the AAP government had failed to secure the State’s interests by being unable to prevent the release of 8,500 cusecs of water to Haryana.

BJP leader and Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu said “not a single drop of the State’s share of water” will be released by the BBMB.

Rajinikanth continued, “He is a fighter. He will meet any challenge, and prove what we have been saying for the last decade, that he will face this situation gracefully and bravely, and bring peace in Kashmir and glory to our country.” tnn
