Dhanbad: A retired employee of Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU), Kumud Prasad, is struggling to get his rightful retirement benefits even 17 months after superannuation. Despite deteriorating health and dependence on a pacemaker, the 62-year-old continues to shuttle between the university and his former workplace – the PK Roy Memorial College-seeking gratuity and leave encashment, only to face apathy from officials.Prasad, a non teaching staff who retired in February 2024, had earlier served SSLNT Women’s College for decades before being transferred to KB College Bermo and finally to PK Roy College. He alleged that the principal of SSLNT Women’s College, Sharmila Rani, is deliberately obstructing the process due to a personal grudge. “For the past six months, I have been visiting one office after another at the university with a file full of documents, but my retirement benefits are still withheld. I need this money urgently to continue my heart treatment,” said Prasad, displaying his heart patient card and pacemaker details.He further claimed that after his transfer from SSLNT Women’s College, he served at PK Roy College for over seven years without facing any departmental action or show cause notice. “Even the college issued me a no objection certificate. Still, Rani is harassing me by levelling false corruption charges,” he alleged. The university had set up a three-member committee in June to probe the allegations against Prasad. However, it found no evidence of financial misconduct or missing registers and cleared him of the charges late last month. “The confidential registers were found dumped in a dustbin. The allegations did not hold,” said a committee member on condition of anonymity.Despite this, university officials express helplessness. “We acknowledge the injustice done to the retired employee. I have directed the principal to resolve the issue,” said vice chancellor R K Singh and assured that the pending dues would be released soon. Rani was unavailable for comments when contacted.
