A sharp diplomatic clash is unfolding between Washington and Copenhagen as Denmark pushes back against U.S. President Donald Trump’s renewed calls for American control over Greenland. After high-level talks in Washington with Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Denmark’s foreign minister confirmed a “fundamental disagreement” with the Trump administration over Greenland’s future. While both sides agreed to form a working group on security concerns, Danish and Greenlandic officials made clear that Greenland is not for sale. Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen told reporters after joining Greenland’s foreign minister, Vivian Motzfeldt, for the talks, that there is no intelligence on Russian and Chinese warships in the region for over a decade now.
