Dengue Surge Triggers Govt Action

Hyderabad: With the early onset of the monsoon in May, seasonal diseases have begun to surface across several districts, prompting health authorities to step up preventive measures. According to health officials, Hyderabad (excluding GHMC limits) has reported 304 dengue cases since January, while Rangareddy district has seen 60 cases.

During a review meeting, health minister Damodara Rajanarsimha was informed that the numbers were higher within GHMC zones. In response, he directed officials to intensify anti-larval operations, particularly in high-incidence areas. GHMC has been instructed to appoint special officers in severely affected zones.

To improve monitoring and coordination, the health secretary has been asked to hold regular reviews with district collectors. Special attention will be given to tribal areas, with enhanced coordination between health officials and ITDA project officers.

Field medical staff will conduct door-to-door surveys to detect cases early and educate residents. Senior health officials have been directed to visit districts witnessing a rise in infections. Hospitals have been instructed to stay fully prepared with adequate infrastructure and essential medicines. The minister warned private hospitals against exploiting patients under the guise of dengue or platelet treatments, promising strict action against such malpractice.

Weekly reports on seasonal disease trends will be submitted every Monday. Awareness materials have also been released. Citizens have been urged to keep their surroundings clean, prevent water stagnation and make use of government health services.
