NEW DELHI: A 31-year-old man was arrested for allegedly cheating women after luring them with promises of marriage. He recently cheated a woman from northwest Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh area of Rs 86,500.The accused, identified as Dashmeet Singh, a resident of Rajpura in Punjab, allegedly used matrimonial sites and social media platforms to target women seeking matrimonial alliances. After gaining their trust, he persuaded them to transfer money and then cut off contact, police added.The arrest was made in connection with a complaint filed by a 30-year-old woman. Based on her complaint, an FIR under section 318 (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered at the cyber police station in Oct last year.The police team analysed digital footprints, transaction records and location data. It was found that the accused reportedly used a bank account to receive the money, which was later moved through multiple UPI transactions. Inputs from the site and a social media platform helped cops trace the suspect, police said.“A detailed analysis of the money trail and technical surveillance led us to Rajpura in Punjab, where the accused was operating from,” said Adl CP (northwest) Bhisham Singh. The accused was subsequently arrested on Thursday. A mobile phone used in the commission of the crime was seized from his possession.He told police that he resorted to cheating due to financial difficulties at home and to fund his extravagant lifestyle. Police said the defrauded money was spent on liquor and parties.A graduate, he is employed as a dispatch manager in a private company. To avoid detection, he frequently changed locations, initially staying in Janakpuri before moving to Punjab, police added.
