Cut power, water supply of illegal buildings, Cidco writes to civic bodies | Mumbai News – Times of India

Navi Mumbai: Cidco’s chief controller of unauthorized constructions, Jagannath Veerkar has written to MSEDCL commissioners of the Navi Mumbai and Panvel City Municipal Corporations to immediately disconnect power supply, water supply, sewerage connection or any other services to any building or unauthorized constructions in absence of building Completion Certificate or Occupancy Certificate. Veerkar’s separate letters on April 30, referred to Supreme Court’s judgment dated Dec 17, 2024, judgments of Bombay High Court and government resolutions/notifications/orders. The letters asked not to provide any services, but the inaction by agencies angered politicians and activists.Veerkar said the respective authorities or departments have to act. MSEDCL Bhandup zone chief engineer, Sanjay Patil said, “I could not track the letter.” In response, Panvel civic body deputy municipal commissioner (encroachment), Ravikiran Ghodke said, Cidco has to act against an illegal temple in Kharghar sector 16 Vastu Vihar. Activist Rajeev Mishra said, “The government agencies do not act on each others’ letters. This raises concern over their seriousness in handling public complaints.”
