The speakers at the public meeting organised by the CPI to mark the closing ceremony of the party’s centenary celebrations in Khammam on Sunday expressed their concern over what they called ‘imperialist US aggression’ on Venezuela, a sovereign country.
The meeting attended by foreign delegates from Cuba, Venezuela, North Korea, Palestine, Nepal and Vietnam, among others, served as a platform to express solidarity with the people of Venezuela.
CPI general secretary D. Raja said that the United States armed forces waged a war on Venezuela and captured the sovereign country’s elected President and his wife.
He said, “The U.S. aggression evoked widespread condemnation from various countries across the world. But Narendra Modi-led BJP government did not utter a single word condemning the brazen attack on Venezuela in violation of International Laws.”
“Mr. Modi is not uttering a single word against the US aggression. Don’t succumb to pressure and US imperialist power. You have no right to rule this country,” he said, criticising Mr Modi.
“People of Palestine are reeling under untold suffering. Scores of children were killed by Israel’s attacks on Gaza. This is nothing but genocide,” he said expressing solidarity with people of Palestine.
Referring to CPI’s 100-year legacy, he said today’s meeting in Khammam is a historic moment. The CPI has a glorious history of valiant struggles and sacrifices, he said recalling the significant contribution of the CPI in the freedom struggle. He said the CPI and the Congress party were in the forefront of the freedom struggle.
But the RSS has a dubious history of colluding with British colonial rulers, he alleged, taking a swipe at the BJP-RSS combine accusing it of pursuing a ‘divisive and communal’ agenda. The main task before the democratic forces is to wage a unified fight to defeat the fascist forces, he added.
CPI State secretary and Kothagudem MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao presided over the meeting.
Mr. Rao recalled the historic mass struggles including the Telangana Peasants Armed Struggle spearheaded by the CPI to espouse the cause of landless poor people, farmers, labourers and toiling masses in its 100-year journey.
He vowed to carry forward the red flag with renewed resolve.
CPI national leaders including K Narayana and K. Ramakrishna, and the party delegates from various States attended the public meeting.
