The Kochi Corporation is set to initiate steps to ease formalities related to social security pension.
Addressing the Corporation Council here on Saturday (March 29), Mayor M. Anilkumar said that a special cell will be formed for this purpose. The cell is intended to remove unforeseen and inordinate delays and hurdles after the submission of applications with regard to social security pensions. The eligible among the applicants will be ensured a pension at the earliest.
The cell will operate either out of the zonal offices or the main office. A decision in this regard will be taken very shortly. The council also decided to allot study rooms to those from the scheduled caste with possession certificates. This was after Councillor P.R. Ranish pointed out that applications by many with possession certificates had been turned down. The issue was brought to the notice of the director for the development of the scheduled castes and the response was positive, he said.
Mr. Anilkumar said that the State government would be approached with a request to increase the wages of attenders and pharmacists on par with the wage rise for homoeopathic doctors. The demand to this effect was raised by Councillor Benedict Fernandes.
Mayor said that high mast lights should be installed in divisions only with the knowledge of the councillors concerned. People’s representatives should consult the councillors in this regard. At many places, high mast lights were being installed without the knowledge of the councillors and when they fall into disrepair, the burden falls on the Corporation.
Mr. Anilkumar said that this should be avoided and urged the councillors to decide the location and the number of such lights through consultations. A letter to this effect will be given to people’s representatives. The Mayor said that the extra allocation received as the State government’s Budget allocation under the People’s Plan Campaign would be moved to sectors based on practicality.
The Corporation has also decided to intensify the fight against drug menace. Rapid Reaction Teams will be formed enlisting members from the police and the excise for the purpose at the ward level. The Corporation Budget had also mentioned the resolve to fight drug menace.
