Contract worker dies at Vedanta Steel plant | Ranchi News – The Times of India

Bokaro: A contract worker employed with the Vedanta ESL Steel Limited’s plant in Siyaljori, Chandankiyari block, died on Sunday after being found unconscious at the facility’s ductile pipe unit. The deceased has been identified as Ganesh Nayak, a resident of Dantu village working under Vedanta ESL’s business partner E2E Urja Solutions Private Limited. He collapsed while on duty around 7:30 am. The plant’s health centre team rushed him to the Bokaro district hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Though the exact cause could only be determined after a post-mortem report, the company management suspected natural causes behind the sudden death. Meanwhile, the Bokaro factory inspector, Shivanand Laguri, has initiated an investigation into the incident, after confirming receipt of preliminary verbal information about the incident from ESL officials. Nayak’s family, which was devastated by the news, demanded justice and appropriate compensation. After the intervention of Dhanbad MP Dulu Mahto, the company, the family members and police held negotiations which resulted in a settlement of Rs 25 lakh as compensation.
