Construction worker killed in road accident in Erode

A 28-year-old construction worker died on the way to the hospital after the two-wheeler he was riding collided with a commercial vehicle near Gobichettipalayam on Monday night.

The police said Zaheer Hussain of Seethalakshmipuram was working as a construction labourer. As he had no work that day, he went out with his friend Ravikumar (28), a resident of Dasappan Street. The two were travelling on a motorcycle along Erode–Sathyamangalam Road, with Zaheer Hussain riding the vehicle.

As they neared Nayakkankadu, a goods van travelling ahead of them took a sudden turn at a curve in the road. Unable to anticipate it, Zaheer Hussain crashed into the van. He sustained severe head injuries in the collision, while Ravikumar also suffered injuries.

Passers-by alerted the Gobichettipalayam police, and both men were taken by ambulance to the Government Hospital in Gobichettipalayam. However, doctors confirmed that Zaheer Hussain had died on the way. Ravikumar is undergoing treatment.

Gobichettipalayam police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. Preliminary inquiries revealed that the van driver made the sudden turn without signalling or using hand gesture, leading to the accident.
