Brewing By The River: DDA Plans 3 Theme-Based Cafes | Delhi News – Times of India

New Delhi: To provide a unique gastronomical experience to Delhiites amidst lush greenery, Delhi Development Authority (DDA) plans to open three theme-based cafés at Asita and Vatika parks on the banks of the Yamuna in the coming two months. The project includes a ‘Garden Café’ on the eastern side of Asita that would have bamboo structures as well as a ‘Container Café’, alongside a plaza at the same location. Additionally, a ‘Bus Kitchen Café’, fashioned from a renovated DTC bus, will be established at Yamuna Vatika.DDA stated that the initiative, implemented on the suggestion of lieutenant governor V K Saxena, aims to increase citizen engagement and provide people with recreational zones that connect them with the river and instil a sense of responsibility. The authority has already floated bids for the cafés, which will be run by operators of popular restaurants or cafés, said officials.“Well-known entities have come forward to run the facilities, which underscores the credibility and potential of these properties and demonstrates strong market confidence in the ventures. Several prestigious organisations have offered bids nearly twice the reserve price for these eco-friendly and non-permanent, movable cafés and eateries,” stated DDA.According to officials, while Garden Café fetched a bid of more than Rs 12.1 lakh over the reserved price of Rs 6.5 lakh, Container Café fetched over Rs 8.3 lakh against the reserved price of Rs 4.4 lakh. Similarly, Bus Kitchen Café at Vatika fetched almost Rs 4.3 lakh against the reserved price of nearly Rs 3 lakh. The development is in line with DDA’s recent initiatives to create movable, non-permanent eateries without kitchens at restored heritage sites, such as Café Stone at Mehrauli Archaeological Park and Rock Café at Sanjay Van. Both these facilities have a heavy footfall of visitors now. Besides these, Bamboo Café at Baansera also has a steady stream of patrons.“These sites on the floodplains and the heritage parks are revamped green spaces where people can go and spend quality time with family and friends,” said the authority.
