As children, we live in a world of wonderment, where every experience is a new adventure. However, as we grow into adults, the monotony of daily life often dulls our sense of awe. It is time to reclaim that wonderment and live more fulfilling lives, said Swami Mitrananda.
Consider the simple act of enjoying a handful of curd rice. Behind this everyday pleasure lies a complex web of factors: farms providing raw materials, roads connecting them to markets, storage facilities holding ingredients, and kitchen preparing the final dish. The same is true of every desire we fulfil. However, the process does not end there. Once we eat, our body works tirelessly to convert food into energy, repairing and growing tissues. This intricate dance of digestion, absorption and cellular processes is a marvel in itself.
Reflecting on the countless desires fulfilled since childhood, it is astonishing to think of the Lord’s orchestration. Connecting people, resources and circumstances to meet our needs is a wonder. The Bhagavad Gita describes the atman as a wonder, beyond human comprehension.
Let us rediscover wonderment in our lives. By embracing awe and gratitude, we can live more happily. As the verse 29 in Chapter 2 of the Gita says, “Ashcharya vat pashyati kashchid enan ashcharya vad vadati tathaiva chanyah ashcharya vach chainam anyah shrinoti shrutvapyenam veda na chaiva kashchit” (Some see the atman as wonder, some describe it as wonderment, and some hear of the atman as wonder.)
Let us bring back that sense of wonder and live life to the fullest.
