The Government of Andhra Pradesh on Saturday accorded administrative sanction for a sum of approximately ₹4,471 crore to the Member-Convener of the A.P. Power Coordination Committee (APPCC) towards advance claim of tariff subsidy payable to the Discoms (distribution companies) for the first quarter of FY 2025-26.
In a G.O. issued to that effect by Special Chief Secretary (Energy) K. Vijayanand, the government had given a comprehensive budget release order for nearly ₹12,940 crore (for tariff subsidies) for the period April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026, and as per Section 65 of the Electricity Act of 2003, the government was required to pay the subsidy in advance to the Discoms every quarter.
The Assistant Secretary to Government and Drawing & Disbursing Officer of the Energy Department had been directed to remit the sanctioned amount (₹4,471 crore) into the bank accounts of the Discoms.
