Snow White box office collection Day 1: Rachel Zegler starrer earns just Rs 65 lakh in India; makes .5 million debut in North America | – The Times of India

Disney’s live-action remake of Snow White, starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, in lead roles, was off to a rather slow start at the Indian box office.
The fairytale was among the few films that opened under the Rs 1 crore mark this year. According to Sacnilk.com, the movie earned just around Rs 65 lakh on its opening day in theatres in India. Besides being among the lower Hollywood openers in the country, it was also beaten by the Bollywood films like ‘Chhaava’ and ‘The Diplomat’, both of which scored over Rs 1.5 crore at the box office on Friday.
North American Box Office Performance
According to Deadline, the film is projected to earn between $45 million and $55 million from 4,200 North American theatres during its opening weekend. The film kicked off with $15.5 million on Friday, which includes $3.5 million from Thursday night previews, according to industry estimates.
Snow White’s opening trajectory places it in the same range as Disney’s 2019 Dumbo, which earned $15.2 million on its first day and finished its debut weekend with $46 million. However, it must be noted that this live-action carries a significantly higher production budget—$270 million compared to Dumbo’s $170 million.
International Box Office
Internationally, Snow White is estimated to earn an additional $50 million, pushing its projected global debut past $100 million. However, these figures fall short of earlier tracking predictions, which suggested the film could open north of $60 million at the US box office.
Controversies Cast a Shadow Over Release
The film’s release has not been without challenges. The film has faced public backlash over significant changes to the original story. Additionally, calls for boycotts emerged due to Zegler and Gadot’s opposing public stances on the Israel-Hamas war, adding further controversy to the film’s rollout. In response to the brewing controversies, Disney scaled back the film’s premiere, opting to forgo a red carpet event, which limited media access.
Live-Action Lineup
Snow White is the latest in Disney’s lineup of live-action remakes of animated classic blockbusters. While previous films such as The Lion King (2019) and Aladdin (2019) crossed the $1 billion mark globally, other adaptations like Dumbo and The Little Mermaid (2023) have delivered weaker box office performances despite hefty budgets.

Soul tunes at the Mango Showers Festival debut in Bengaluru

It is that time of year when the mango showers fall, bringing a welcome respite from the heat and a promise of fragrant, wholesome summer fruits. While one cannot predict the rain these days, the city’s music lovers can certainly enjoy the Mango Showers Music Festival — a three-day programme with a mixed bag of events.

When it was established in 2011, the primary purpose of the Majolly Music Trust was to aid aging musicians who were unable to land or perform gigs anymore. However, the Mango Showers Music Festival is a fundraiser to launch their newest initiative — a scholarship fund for students who want to study music but cannot afford to.

According to Neecia Majolly, founder of the Trust, a scholarship fund was always on their cards. “When it comes to Western classical music, there are no institutions in India for higher studies and students have to go abroad to pursue their passion,” Neecia says. “Now, this is not cheap and banks do not offer loans for music studies as they feel they are not a financially viable cause.”

Neecia says watching one of her own students run from pillar to post a few years ago, to raise the cash for her education, spurred her to get this fundraiser up and running. She does admit that while the event may not generate enough funds to cover the entire tuition for every aspiring student, it could ease their burden and raise awareness, hopefully benefiting more students over time.

“All proceeds from the Mango Shower Music Festival will go towards the scholarship fund.”

Bengaluru-based musician Joey Sharma, who will be performing at the festival, says he and his band were glad to be part of the initiative when Neecia approached them a few months ago. “We’ll be playing a genre of music called gypsy jazz, a style pioneered by Django Reinhardt, a Belgian guitarist,” he says, adding that audiences could expect melodies “reminiscent of Woody Allen movies with a modern touch.”

A musical titled Jack and the Beans Talk, with an original score and script will be presented, as well as a performance by German pianist Andreas Konig. Andreas who will be presenting a Western classical piano recital on April 27, will also be conducting a master class with piano students at Odyssey School of Music, earlier in the day.

The Mango Shower Music Festival will take place from April 25-27.Donor passes cost ₹449, ₹225 for children below eight years. For bookings and other details call 8494930941

Let the music play

Day 1: Joey Sharma Quartet will perform at the Alliance Francaise de Bangalore, at 7pm
Day 2: Original musical Jack and the Beans Talk at Medai, Koramangala, at 5pm and 7pm
Day 3: German concert pianist Andreas Konig to perform at the Alliance Francaise de Bangalore, at 7pm

Akshay Kumar’s Kesari Chapter 2 mints over Rs 9 crore in North America – The Times of India

Akshay Kumar’s Kesari Chapter 2 is performing well at the North American box office, grossing over $1 million in its first five days, with Canada being a particularly strong market. While domestic earnings have been steady, the film’s international performance, especially in Sikh-dominated regions, is promising. Industry trackers anticipate further growth, potentially reaching $1.

Akshay Kumar’s much-anticipated historical Kesari Chapter 2 is making its presence felt at the North American box office. According to the latest figures, the film has grossed an impressive $172,341 on its fifth day from 298 locations, taking its total reported gross in North America to $1,077,447 ( Rs 9.22 crore ) .The film also featured R Madhavan and Ananya Panday in leading roles.

In the United States alone, the film has collected $479,885 so far. Meanwhile, the film’s performance in Canada has been particularly noteworthy, with Kesari Chapter 2 earning CAD $597,562 by the end of Day 5. The strong showing in Canada reflects Akshay Kumar’s significant fan base in the region, where his patriotic dramas and action entertainers have traditionally performed well.
The film, which is a spiritual sequel to the 2019 hit Kesari, continues the saga of Indians taking on foreign powers. Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi- the film is based on Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat’s book The Case That Shook The Empire. The book talks about the case that was fought by Sir C Sankaran Nair and the British Crown after the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre that took place in Amritsar.
Back home in India, Kesari Chapter 2 has registered a total of Rs 42 crore at the domestic box office within its first six days of release. While the film opened with strong collections, weekday drops have been steady but controlled, keeping it in the race for a respectable lifetime total.
Trade note that while the film hasn’t matched the blockbuster pace of Kumar’s previous patriotic hits like Kesari or Airlift, it has found a loyal audience in international territories. North America, in particular, has shown consistent footfalls, especially in Canada’s Sikh-dominated regions.
With the weekend approaching and with just one big film Ground Zero starring Emraan Hashmi releasing, industry trackers are hopeful that Kesari Chapter 2 will add a solid chunk to its total in both domestic and overseas markets. If the current trend continues, the film could comfortably cross the $1.5 million mark in North America by the end of its second weekend, securing a spot among the year’s better-performing Bollywood titles overseas.
