Hundreds of volunteers took part in a beach clean-up drive at Padukare Beach in Kota-Manoor to mark the International Beach Clean-up Day, organised by local organisations and Kota Gram Panchayat on Saturday.
MLA for Kundapur A. Kiran Kumar Kodgi, who inaugurated the event, said plastic waste has become a major threat not only to marine life but also to human beings. “Excessive use of plastic is polluting the environment and creating serious health problems. Marine creatures are suffering and diseases are spreading due to this lifestyle. It is important for everyone to become aware of the danger it poses to the natural environment and to the society and reduce plastic usage,” he said.
Mr. Kodgi appreciated the efforts of the panchayat and local groups in continuously working towards environment protection. Members of Panchavarna Yuvaka Mandala, Panchavarna Mahila Mandala, Geethananda Foundation, Ashrita Educational Institutions, Handattu Mahila Balaga, Manoor Friends, JCI Kota Senior Legion, and others took part in the clean-up drive.
On the occasion, former president of Panchavarna Ajith Achar administered an environment awareness pledge. Geethananda Foundation promoter Anand C. Kundar also delivered a message on the importance of cleanliness. Kota Panchayat vice-president Pandu Poojary, Panchavarna Yuvaka Mandala president Manohar Poojary, Mahila Mandala president Lalitha Poojary, and others were present.
