A 50-year-old man, who was bitten by a dog and was undergoing treatment for rabies, died in Royapettah on Saturday.
City police said the victim, Mohammad Nasruddin, was a resident of Royapettah. Nasruddin was bitten by a stray dog on the back of his knee while boarding an auto near Mirsahibpet market on Besant Road, when he had gone to purchase vegetables in July. He immediately went to Government Royapettah Hospital for treatment and returned home.
However, Nasruddin had a fever again on August 12 and was undergoing treatment at Royapettah Government Hospital. The hospital authorities had quarantined him in a separate room as he was suffering from rabies. He died on Saturday, police said.
