A Delhi Police team on Friday (August 22, 2025 visited Rajkot, Gujarat, and questioned five persons linked to Rajesh Sakaria, a local resident who was arrested for allegedly attacking Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during her Jan Sunwai programme on August 20.
Mr. Sakaria, 41, an autorickshaw driver from the Kotharia Road area, has been booked on charges of attempted murder. Investigators said that he was upset over the Supreme Court’s now-modified order to capture stray dogs in Delhi and shift them to shelter homes.

“During his visit to Delhi, Sakaria remained in touch with five persons back in Rajkot,” said DCP (Zone 2) Jagdish Bangarva. “Among them was an autorickshaw driver who had transferred ₹2,000 to Sakaria via GPay.”
“A team of Delhi Police visited Rajkot and interrogated these five persons, including an autorickshaw driver who had sent ₹2,000 via GPay to Sakaria. The team left after questioning them,” the DCP said. While no one was detained, one autorickshaw driver has been served a notice to appear for further questioning, as he had transferred the money to the accused, he added.

Police said Mr. Sakaria travelled to Delhi via Ujjain on August 19 to join a protest against the SC ruling on strays. His mother, Bhanuben, confirmed that he was a dog lover and had been disturbed by the order.
Rajkot police records show Sakaria faced five FIRs between 2017 and 2024, including cases of assault, criminal intimidation, and liquor possession.
