Health Minister Ma. Subramanian on Friday (July 18, 2025) said that S. Vineeth, project director of Tamil Nadu Health Systems Project, is conducting a detailed inquiry into the alleged kidney sale in Namakkal district. A report would be submitted to the State government in two weeks, the Minister said in a press release, adding that action will be taken based on the findings.
The Minister said that based on reports in the media, an inquiry was taken up and the involvement of a 52-year-old man, who was a middleman, was established. A complaint was lodged against him at the Pallipalayam police station and a search was on for him. Complaints have surfaced that he had lured labourers in the powerloom unit at Annai Sathyanagar, Pallipalayam, into selling their kidneys by promising them money, he said.
“A year ago, the then District Collector had acted against a similar complaint. It has resurfaced now. Inquiry is going on, and once we know who were involved at the end of inquiry, we will initiate legal action against them,” he told reporters during the sidelines of an event to start new polyclinics in 25 urban primary health centres (PHC) across the State.
Organ donations
Tamil Nadu tops in organ donation and a lot of awareness has been created on organ donations, he added.
Already, 108 polyclinics were operational in the State. These facilities functioned from 4.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. and consisted of general medicine, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, dermatology, ophthalmology, dental, psychiatry, and physiotherapy services.
The Minister laid the foundation stone to construct buildings in 14 places in Tiruvallur district at a cost of ₹11.85 crore. This included health sub centres, PHCs and nurses quarters.
