Ranya Rao Arrested: How Kannada actor and DGP’s daughter Ranya Rao’s ‘golden run’ ended at Bengaluru airport | Bengaluru News – The Times of India

BENGALURU: Kannada actress Ranya Rao, daughter of Karnataka DGP (Police Housing Corporation) K Ramachandra Rao, was arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on Monday night for allegedly smuggling gold.
Ranya, who arrived from Dubai, was caught with 14kg of gold bars hidden in a belt strapped to her body, along with 800 grams of gold ornaments. She was produced before a magistrate on Tuesday and remanded to 14-day judicial custody. Officials suspect she is part of a smuggling syndicate operating through Bengaluru airport in recent months.
The 32-year-old actress has acted in a handful of Kannada and Tamil films, including Maanikya (starring Sudeep), Pataki (with Ganesh), and Wagah (featuring Vikram Prabhu).
Frequent Gulf Trips Raised Red Flags
According to sources, Ranya had been under DRI surveillance due to her frequent international travel, having reportedly made over 10 trips this year. “Officials became suspicious after noticing her multiple short-duration visits to the Gulf,” said an officer stationed at KIA.
Based on this pattern, a DRI team was dispatched to intercept her on Monday. “She looked extremely confident as she disembarked, showing no signs of nervousness. But when searched, officers were shocked to find gold bars cleverly concealed in a belt,” a source said.
The agency is now reviewing CCTV footage of her previous arrivals to ascertain whether she had smuggled gold on earlier occasions. “In her last four trips over the past 15 days, she wore similar attire, with the belt hidden from view,” the source added.
Protocol Loophole Used to Evade Checks
Investigators believe Ranya managed to bypass frisking by taking advantage of official protocol services meant for senior bureaucrats, including IPS officers. “A protocol officer would meet her at the terminal and escort her out, ensuring she wasn’t subjected to physical screening. She would be picked up in a government vehicle, avoiding scrutiny,” a source revealed.
DGP Distances Himself from Daughter
When contacted, DGP K Ramachandra Rao distanced himself from his daughter’s activities. “Ranya married Jatin Hukkeri, an architect specializing in designing pubs and microbreweries, four months ago. She has not visited us since her wedding. We have no knowledge of her or her husband’s business. This news has come as a huge shock and disappointment. She has let us down. If there’s any wrongdoing, the law will take its course,” Rao told TOI.
Past Controversies
In 2014, when Rao was IGP (Southern Range), Mysuru police faced allegations of misappropriation after a Kerala jeweler accused them of seizing ?2 crore in cash but officially recording only Rs 20 lakh. The case was later investigated by the CID, leading to the arrest of Rao’s gunman on charges of dacoity.

Indian Muslims condemn Pahalgam massacre | Mumbai News – The Times of India

MUMBAI: Indian Muslims for Secular Democracy (IMSD), along with the Bebaak Collective, Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan (BMMA), Centre for Study of Society and Secularism (CSSS), Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP), and Wisdom Foundation, have strongly condemned the heinous terrorist attack targeting tourists near Pahalgam in the Kashmir Valley.
IMSD convenor Javed Anand, in a statement, said that Muslims join all fellow Indians in offering their heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the deceased. He also called upon the central and state governments to ensure urgent and adequate compensation for the loss of precious lives and proper treatment for the injured.
According to some reports, The Resistance Front (TRF), a shadow group of the banned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has claimed responsibility for the strike.
“We hope that the perpetrators are swiftly apprehended, brought to justice, and handed severe punishments,” the statement said.

Poll

Do you believe the government should provide immediate compensation to the families affected by the recent attack in Pahalgam?

IMSD has consistently opposed the targeting of innocent civilians anywhere, irrespective of the justification offered for such savagery.
The terror attack strikes at the heart of the Valley’s tourism centre, Pahalgam, raising serious concerns about the so-called “return of normalcy.”
The latest mass killing raises disturbing questions about the failure of security agencies in providing adequate cover in and around Pahalgam—an obvious target for terrorist groups, Anand noted.
“We demand a thorough inquiry into this grievous security lapse, accountability for those responsible, and necessary corrective action,” the statement urged.
Meanwhile, amid this moment of grief and anguish, the statement highlighted the humanity displayed by average Kashmiri Muslims. On Wednesday (April 23), the entire Valley observed a complete bandh—shopkeepers, traders, and transporters all joined in. Reports have emerged from across Kashmir of mosques opening their doors to assist distraught tourists, along with widespread condemnations from religious leaders describing the attack as one on humanity itself.
Kashmiri newspapers, both editorially and visually, conveyed that this was a day of mourning for the lives lost. IMSD urged all media, especially television channels, to report developments objectively and avoid provocative coverage.
“We call upon all Indians, irrespective of religion, to emulate the fine example of communal harmony displayed by ordinary Kashmiri Muslims,” they urged.

Jharkhand man praises terror group on social media after Pahalgam attack, held

RANCHI: A 31-year-old man was arrested in Bokaro for allegedly posting controversial remarks supporting terrorist organizations following the recent Pahalgam attack in Jammu & Kashmir. Mohammad Naushad, a resident of Millat Nagar under Balidih police station limits, reportedly shared content including phrases like “Thank You Pakistan” and “Thank You Lashkar-e-Taiba” on social media.
The posts, which quickly went viral, sparked widespread public outrage amid national mourning for the 28 victims—mostly tourists—who lost their lives in the terror attack at Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam.
Balidih police station in-charge Naveen Singh confirmed the arrest, stating, “Action was taken based on the offensive post shared by the accused. Further questioning of Naushad is ongoing to determine his intent and possible links, if any.”
Naushad, who describes himself as an “Islamic Lawyer and Bold Orator” on social media, has allegedly been known to share controversial content online. Police are investigating his digital activities and motivations.
The swift police action came in response to growing public anger over the inflammatory posts that appeared to support terrorist activities during a time of national tragedy.
