The police have heightened security in north-west Delhi’s Jahangirpuri and issued a traffic advisory ahead of a Hanuman Jayanti procession scheduled in the area on Saturday.
DCP (North West) Bhisham Singh said they have given permission for a “Shobha Yatra” in the area, which saw communal clashes during the procession in April 2022 that left eight police personnel and a civilian injured.
“Adequate security forces will be deployed to maintain law and order,” said the officer.
Earlier this week, the Delhi High Court had directed the law enforcement agency to take “timely decision” on allowing the procession in Jahangirpuri in response to a plea against the police’s refusal to allow the yatra due to the 2022 clashes. “An untoward incident in 2022 cannot necessarily preclude the holding of processions,” Justice Sachin Datta said in his April 9 order, adding that “it is incumbent on the police to make adequate arrangements”.
