Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar’s 2011 blockbuster hit Mankathawas re-released in theatres on Friday (January 23) to much anticipation. The Venkat Prabhu-directed film, which completes 15 years in 2026, is widely considered one of the best films of Ajith.

Since earlier this morning, social media has been abuzz with videos and pictures from the theatres, capturing fans celebrating the many crowd-pleasing songs and scenes in the action entertainer.

One of the videos showed the film’s team, including director Venkat Prabhu, actors Mahat, Premgi Amaren, and Vaibhav, attending a show at the Kamala Cinemas theatre in Vadapalani, Chennai

Mankatha, which was superstar Ajith’s 50th film, was an action entertainer that followed a corrupt cop named Vinayak Mahadevan (Ajith) who teams up with a gang of criminals to steal ₹500 crores from a businessman. The many twists and turns in the narrative and the umteen crowd-pleasing mass moments made it a memorable outing for fans of the superstar.

With Trisha playing the female lead, the film also featured Arjun Sarja, Lakshmi Rai, Anjali, Andrea Jeremiah, and Ashwin Kakumanu in pivotal roles. Yuvan Shankar Raja composed the hit album of the film, which had cinematography by Sakthi Saravanan and editing by Praveen KL and NB Srikanth. Dhayanidhi Alagir and iVivek Rathnavel produced the film under the Cloud Nine Movies banner.
