NEW DELHI: A head constable of the Uttar Pradesh Police and a passerby were stabbed by a group of motorcycle-borne assailants following a brief altercation at a bus stop on Wazirabad Road in north-east Delhi on Wednesday.The incident took place on the night of Jan 21 and was reported to Khajuri Khas police station by Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, where the injured were admitted for treatment. Police said that upon reaching the hospital, it was found that two persons suffered multiple stab injuries.One of the injured was identified as Kuldeep (31), a head constable in the Uttar Pradesh Police, currently posted at Ankur Vihar police station. In his statement, Kuldeep said he was waiting at a bus stop on Wazirabad Road when three men on a motorcycle arrived at the spot, riding rashly. The trio allegedly started quarrelling with people who were waiting at the bus stop.When Kuldeep intervened to defuse the situation, the three men fled the spot, he said. However, within minutes, the accused returned and allegedly attacked Kuldeep with a sharp weapon.During the assault, a passerby, Sachin Pandey (32), a resident of 5th Pusta, Sonia Vihar, attempted to rescue Kuldeep. He was also attacked by the assailants and suffered injuries in the process.The men then fled. Both injured persons were rushed to a hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. Their condition is stated to be stable.Police registered a case under Sections 109 (attempt to murder) and 3(5) (common intention) of BNS at Khajuri Khas police station.Officers said multiple teams were deployed to identify and nab the accused. CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being scanned to trace the movements of the attackers before and after the incident.
