Ranchi: Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy on Wednesday presented a copy of the Jharkhand Geo-Heritage (Fossil) Bill, which he would introduce in the budget session of the state assembly as a private member’s bill, to Governor Santosh Gangwar.“The Governor’s prior approval is necessary before introducing a money bill, as per the constitutional provisions. Hence, I have handed over the draft of the bill to the Governor and requested his permission to introduce it,” the MLA said.Roy said, “The Governor has assured me that he would send it to the state govt with recommendations and that he would grant permission to introduce it at the earliest when it comes to him through proper channel from the govt and assembly.”Roy had on Tuesday handed over the draft to assembly speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto to apprise him before presenting it in the House.Roy said, “Fossils are found in large numbers across the Rajmahal hills, especially Sahibganj and Pakur districts, but are being destroyed due to human activities like mining. These are valuable national heritage and needs protection. Hence, it is necessary to implement an act and regulations.”Meanwhile, state art, culture, tourism and youth affairs minister Sudivya Kumar on Wednesday met with experts during the state teams’ UK visit to brainstorm ways to conserve megaliths.
