Singer Vijay Prakash is set for a double celebration in Hyderabad. Performing solo in the city after five years, he is also kickstarting his birthday festivities a month early, in what he calls one of his favourite cities.

“I performed at Golconda Fort for the Golconda Festival in December, but this concert is special because I’m performing solo after a long time,” says Vijay, known for his classical, semi-classical and film music concerts.

Vijay hopes the audience at this ‘two-sided party’ concert will not only enjoy the music but sing along with him. Speaking to us during a rehearsal break, he says he was pleasantly surprised when he looked back at the range of Telugu songs he has recorded across genres. “I feel blessed,” he says, adding that the setlist brings together chartbusters from the last 15 years. These include Hello Rammante, Taanu Nenu, Hosanna, Ide Kada Nee Katha from Maharshi, and Bagunde Bagunde from Chintakayala Ravi.

The concert will also feature popular duets such as Idedo Bagundhey Cheli from Mirchi and the party anthem Aaradugula Bullettu from Atharintiki Daaredi. “It’s going to be an evening packed with hits across genres,” Vijay says, “but we’re also presenting them in a fresh way, keeping the venue and its unique set-up in mind.”

Vijay’s latest venture is Culture Club, a music space in Bengaluru run by his wife, Mahati. Designed for artists, students and art lovers, it hosts workshops and sessions that have drawn an enthusiastic response. “It’s become a space to learn, teach or simply share music. This is my way of giving back to what has given me everything,” he says.
