Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to poll-bound Assam, strongly criticised the Congress for what he described as years of neglect, instability and misplaced priorities in the state and the Northeast. He accused the party of favouring infiltrators over Assamese citizens and blocking recognition of Assam’s culture and icons, including opposition to honouring Bhupen Hazarika. Modi said the BJP’s “double-engine government” was now reversing those policies and restoring stability and development. He praised the Hemanta Biswa Sarma government for recovering land taken from the people of Assam and returning it to rightful owners. The Prime Minister made these remarks while addressing Bagurumba Dwhou 2026, a large cultural event celebrating the heritage and traditions of the Bodo community, held at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati, highlighting the government’s focus on culture, identity and development.
