Sambalpur: A woman in her 20s sustained critical injuries after being hit by a train near Mundera in Sambalpur district late Tuesday night. She was rushed to the district headquarters hospital by RPF personnel, where her condition remains critical. RPF sources said the Sambalpur-Shalimar Express had just departed Sambalpur station and was moving slowly through the Mundera stretch due to an elephant corridor in the area. The loco pilot spotted the woman standing on the tracks and applied emergency brakes. But the train still struck her, causing severe head injuries. She was initially handed over to the Hatibari station master before RPF shifted her to the hospital. She is yet to be identified and the circumstances under which she was on the tracks remain unclear. RPF has launched an investigation into the incident.
