Ruckus continued in Delhi Assembly on Wednesday (January 7, 2026), third day of the Winter Session, leading to multiple adjournments, as BJP MLAs continued to protest remarks made by Leader of Opposition (LoP) and senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi, allegedly insulting Guru Tegh Bahadur.

Speaker Vijender Gupta said it was unfortunate that Ms. Atishi has not made any communication with him on the matter, while AAP MLAs informed him that she was outside Delhi.

The Assembly was later adjourned for the day.

Meanwhile, before the House adjourned, Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra demanded a public apology from Ms. Atishi and said on Wednesday (January 7, 2026) that a Censure Motion to condemn the LoP would be introduced in the Assembly.

Mr. Mishra said Ms. Atishi should apologise to the “citizens of Delhi, Sikh community and the Assembly” altogether for her “insensitive” remark on ‘Guru Tegh Bahadur’. The Minister further informed the media that the ruling party will take up discussions on pollution and other important issues, such as the Jan Vishwas Bill and the Shop and Establishment Act, in the Assembly on Wednesday (January 7, 2026).

On Tuesday (January 6, 2026) too, BJP MLAs demanded her apology both inside and outside the Assembly.

Ms. Atishi’s alleged comment was inaudible as it was made during a protest in the House by AAP MLAs demanding a discussion on air pollution.
