NEW DELHI: Indian-American Sunita Williams has shared her insights on how India looked from space during her nine-month long stay on the International Space Station (ISS), with a special mention of Himalayas, fishing fleet along the coast of Mumbai and Gujarat. In a presser on Tuesday, Williams said, “India is amazing. Every time we went over the Himalayas, and I’ll tell you Butch got some incredible pictures of the Himalayas, so just amazing. You can see this ripple that happened obviously when the plates collided and then as it it flows down into India it’s many many colors.”

“I think when you come from the east going into like Gujarat and Mumbai, the fishing fleet that’s off the coast there gives you a little bit of a beacon that ‘here we come’,” she added. Describing the country as a “network of lights”, Williams said, “Then all throughout India, I think the impression I had was it was just like this network of lights. Bigger cities going down through the smaller cities just incredible to look at at night as well as during the day, highlighted of course by the Himalayas which is just incredible uh as a forefront going down into India.”

She further said that she was hopeful about vising her parental home. Williams is from Jhulasan village in Gujarat. “I hope and I think for sure I’m going to be going back to my father’s home country and visiting with people,” she said. Nasa astronauts Barry Wilmore and Sunita Williams spent over 280 days in space after their planned eight-day mission, which began in June last year, was extended due to technical issues with their Boeing Starliner spacecraft.

With the India launch, Meta introduced a new design cat-eye, stylish frame for the smart glasses, which the company says “Skyler Shiny” frame. China is set to launch its Shenzhou-20 mission that will carry three astronauts to the Chinese space station Tiangong at 5.17 p.m. on April 24 local time (0917 GMT), state media said on Wednesday.
The main purpose of the mission is to complete the in-orbit rotation with the Shenzhou-19 crew which is scheduled to return to the Dongfeng landing site on April 29, China Manned Space Agency officials said at a press conference broadcast on CCTV.
The Shenzhou-20 spaceflight from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China will carry astronauts Chen Dong, Chen Zhongrui and Wang Jie, CCTV said.
The spaceflight will be Chen Dong’s third and the first for the other two – a space engineer and a former air force pilot.
They will conduct space science and application experiments, install a space debris protection device as well as extravehicular payload and equipment, and perform recovery tasks.
The mission will also bring with it zebrafish, planarians and streptomyces as research objects to carry out three life science experiments at the space station.
The crew, scheduled to return to the earth in late October, can expect a resupply mission via the unmanned Tianzhou-9 cargo spacecraft.
The country’s fourth batch of astronauts set to participate in Shenzhou spaceflights is currently in training, featuring for the first time astronauts from China’s special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau, as well as Pakistan.
The Hong Kong and Macau astronauts are likely to carry out their first mission as early as 2026, state media reported.
China said the selection of the Pakistani astronauts is underway. Both countries signed an agreement for space cooperation in February.
One of the two Pakistani astronauts that will join the Chinese missions is set to focus on payloads and scientific research aboard China’s space station.
